Learning to drive in a manual car is the traditional way to learn how to drive. Once you have passed your test you will be qualified to drive a car with a manual or automatic gears.
Manual cars have three pedals:
- A clutch pedal; this is the pedal that makes the car move
- A brake pedal; this is the pedal that make the car stop
- An accelerator pedal; this is the pedal that controls how fast the car moves

Most manual transmission cars have five gears which control the speed that the engine turns and how hard it works. You use first gear when you first start moving as this is the most powerful gear and gradually move up through the gears as you gain speed.

Learning to drive a manual car is a gradual process and learners should be taught by a qualified instructor. When you are competent enough you can take some extra practice under the supervision of a qualified driver. Anyone wishing to supervise a learner driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a full driving licence for at least three years.
